Tie & Dye Workshop in Udaipur – Learn Rajasthani Bandhej with Local Artisans
The experience
What to expect
Rajasthan is a land of colour, and much of that colour comes from the ancient art of tie and dye, known locally as bandhej and leheriya.
At Soulshala, this workshop is led by an artisan family who have been tying and dyeing fabric for royal families in Udaipur since many generations . Their patterns, from tiny dots to flowing waves, are made entirely by hand, the same way their elders made them.
You start by learning how traditional patterns are created through folding and tying the fabric with thread. Then you design your own pattern, tie your piece and dip it into vibrant dyes. The best moment comes at the end: opening the knots and seeing your design appear for the first time.
No experience needed. It's joyful, colourful and full of surprises, great for couples, families, friends and solo travellers.
After the session, your fabric is rinsed, dried and packed for you as a souvenir.
