Glen Forest Walk and a Haunted Tunnel
Provider: Himachal Hiking
Easy forest walk, on trails developed & utilised by British officials, offers an opportunity to escape city crowd of Shimla without going too far away from the city.
Glen is Shimla's lesser known side with dense cedar, oak, and rhododendron forest that most tourists hardy notice. The trail follows an old path Britishers have walked, passing through a historic toy train track and passing via tunnel with its own ghost stories and folklore attached. Your guide teaches you to spot Himalayan birds before you see them. Whistling Thrush, Great Barbet, Himalayan Woodpecker, Red-Rumped Swallow etc are a must to be named. The birdsong carries easily through the trees, and the pine-scented air makes the whole walk feel slower than it is. Good experience for bird lovers, photographers, families with children, and anyone who wants to spend a day in a forest rather than on Mall Road, avoiding traffic at touristy locations.
The Trail offers a walk into the deep green forest of Glen, away from the city hustle & crowd without leaving the main city.
