Walk the River Road:
Begin at Café Kashang, where you are dressed in traditional Kinnauri attire — woven shawls and caps for men, patterned fabric for women. Then step out onto the road and simply walk. The river is your companion the entire way, its sound shifting from distant murmur to full-bodied rush as you follow the road along its bank. No destination in mind. Just the valley, the water, and the mountains above Kashang. How the walk unfoldsStart · Café KashangMeet your guide. Get dressed in Kinnauri attire. Day hike to Kashang
Kashang Valley is one of Kinnaur's least visited corners — a deep, narrow gorge carved by the Kashang stream, flanked by steep pine-covered ridges and glimpses of snow peaks above. The valley has a rawness to it that more popular routes have long lost. No crowds, no shortcuts — just the kind of landscape that makes you realise how far you've come from ordinary. The day begins with a comfortable taxi ride from Kalpa, winding through some of the most dramatic road sections in the district — steep drops, ancient villages clinging to cliffsides, and the Sutlej far below. Your local host, trained and rooted in this landscape, leads the experience — not just as a guide but as someone who actually belongs here and knows what most visitors never find.Enroute, lunch is served at a spot chosen for the view as much as the food — local Kinnauri fare, simple and honest, eaten where the valley opens up around you. And before the day wraps, a quiet wine tasting of Kinnaur's own fruit wines — apple, plum, and more — the kind of thing you don't find on any menu, only here.Kashang Valley doesn't announce itself. It rewards the ones who show up.
