Day hike to Chakha Meadow
Starting near the Kalpa–Roghi road, this trail follows a glacial stream upward through dense cedar and spruce forests before opening onto Chakha Meadows. The ascent gains roughly 800 metres — steady and manageable for reasonably fit hikers, worth every step. At the top, Kinner Kailash stands directly across the valley, close and commanding in a way that stops you mid-breath. The meadows are wide, grassy, and cut through by cold natural streams — a rare place where you genuinely want to slow down. An early morning start is recommended to make the most of the trail and catch the stunning views at the top.

Heritage walk to Dalhousie Rest House
Starting from Zostel Kalpa, this trail descends toward Roghi village before climbing steeply through rocky terrain to reach the historic Dalhousie Rest House — a colonial-era cottage perched dramatically above the valley. The route involves uneven ground and boulders, requiring careful footing throughout. The effort is well worth it, with commanding views of the Sutlej Valley and the Kinner Kailash range greeting you at the top.The return trek back to Zostel Kalpa is equally engaging, offering changing perspectives of the valley below.

Day hike to Kashang
Kashang Valley is one of Kinnaur's least visited corners — a deep, narrow gorge carved by the Kashang stream, flanked by steep pine-covered ridges and glimpses of snow peaks above. The valley has a rawness to it that more popular routes have long lost. No crowds, no shortcuts — just the kind of landscape that makes you realise how far you've come from ordinary. The day begins with a comfortable taxi ride from Kalpa, winding through some of the most dramatic road sections in the district — steep drops, ancient villages clinging to cliffsides, and the Sutlej far below. Your local host, trained and rooted in this landscape, leads the experience — not just as a guide but as someone who actually belongs here and knows what most visitors never find.Enroute, lunch is served at a spot chosen for the view as much as the food — local Kinnauri fare, simple and honest, eaten where the valley opens up around you. And before the day wraps, a quiet wine tasting of Kinnaur's own fruit wines — apple, plum, and more — the kind of thing you don't find on any menu, only here.Kashang Valley doesn't announce itself. It rewards the ones who show up.
